Introduction to Film Studies typically explores the history, theory, and analysis of film, giving students an understanding of different genres, styles, and cinematic techniques. This course sets the stage for more practical aspects of filmmaking. Screenwriting focuses on the principles of writing for the screen, including story structure, character development, dialogue, and formatting. Students learn how to craft compelling narratives and scripts that serve as the blueprint for film production.
In Film Production, students engage hands-on with the technical and creative aspects of making a film. This course covers everything from pre-production planning, such as budgeting and scheduling, to on-set production techniques, including camera work, lighting, and sound. Students gain practical experience through collaborative projects, working in various roles such as director, cinematographer, or editor. Post-Production courses focus on editing techniques, visual effects, and sound design, teaching students how to assemble and refine footage into a finished product. This includes the use of industry-standard software for editing and effects, which is crucial for creating polished and professional films.
Attending college offers benefits beyond academic learning. Students are exposed to diverse perspectives that challenge their thinking. This fosters problem-solving and communication. College is also about social skills. Whether through student organizations or sports teams, students develop leadership skills and build lasting friendships.
